FORT OF SÃO VICENTE
Built in 1809, Fort of São Vicente is one of the bigger and most important forts of the defensive system of the Lines of Torres Vedras. Later, in 1846, during the Liberal Wars, the fort was occupied by the army of Conde de Bonfim.

CASTLE OF TORRES VEDRAS
Of the medieval castle, there is only the Romanesque remains of the Church of Santa Maria and the oval fence rebuilt by the King Manuel I, which defended a manor house that was demolished to give place to the new palace, ordered to build around 1519 by the Captain João Soares de Alarcão.

“CASTRO DO ZAMBUJAL” [NATIONAL MONUMENT]
One of the most complex fortified pre-historical fortifications in the Iberian Peninsula. The “Castro” was strategically elected by the Aegean merchants. The choice of the location was based, essentially, on three reasons: the existence of stone, the defence and the proximity to the river – used as a way of communication and commercialization.

“CHAFARIZ DOS CANOS” [NATIONAL MONUMENT]
Monumental gothic fountain with five pointed arches and decorated with an interesting set of gothic gargoyles and four shields on the columns. The interior is made up of a tank with two baroque taps.

CHURCH AND CONVENT OF NOSSA SENHORA DA GRAÇA
Founded in the sixteenth century by Hermits of St. Augustine, currently houses the Leonel Trindade Municipal Museum. In the church stands the alterpiece of the main chapel and the tomb of St. Gonçalo de Lagos, patron of the city. The monastery cloister is lined by a magnificent set of eighteenth century tile panels depicting the life of Friar Aleixo de Menezes, being probably the largest collection of eighteenth century narrative tiles with a single narrative, from all over the country.

CONVENT OF VARATOJO [NATIONAL MONUMENT]
In a place where silence hovers, the bucolic environment takes us to a dimension of peace and tranquillity. A national monument of gothic style and built by the King Afonso V, this convent is a reference in the territory because of its artistic and architectural elements, the beauty of the cloister and the forest that surrounds the building.

CHAPEL OF NOSSA SENHORA DO AMIAL [NATIONAL MONUMENT]
The chapel has a longitudinal plan, a single nave with rectangular headboard and the altar facing east.  A ribbed vault covers the main chapel, while the main altar and the Gospel’s altar are coated by two Baroque altarpieces dated from the first half of the eighteenth century. The front of the altar is coated by Hispanic-Arab tile.

SÃO PEDRO CHURCH [NATIONAL MONUMENT]
São Pedro Church, one of the oldest in the town, stands out for its remarkable Manueline style’s portico decorated with vegetal elements and fantastic animals, topped by the coat of arms of Maria, wife of King Manuel I.
Inside, there is the quality of the gilded altar, the great variety and wealth of tiles from different eras lining the walls, as well as the Renaissance tomb of João Lopes Perestrelo ark, famous explorer and partner of Vasco da Gama on his trip to India.
